Along the SoAZ Mural Trail
Southern Arizona is bursting with vibrant murals that form an unofficial “mural trail,” weaving through cities like Tucson, Douglas, and Benson. These public artworks celebrate the region’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and community spirit.
Tucson: Known for its dynamic mural scene, Tucson features works by artists like Joe Pagac, Jessica Gonzales, and Rock “CYFI” Martinez. You’ll find murals like “Epic Rides,” “Imagination Navigation Sonoran Sea,” and “Tracks and Trails” along the Rillito River, which blends wildlife, desert landscapes, and surreal storytelling.
Douglas: This border town showcases dozens of murals that reflect its binational identity and history. Projects like “Dreams Without Borders” and the Douglas Public Library murals highlight themes of migration, water conservation, and community pride.
Benson: The Benson Beautification Project has transformed the town with over 30 murals, many painted by Doug Quarles. These depict everything from the Pony Express to Kartchner Caverns, adding historical depth to everyday spaces.

Southern Arizona’s mural scene is well-documented and visually stunning.
